The artistic intervention Rovarios arises within the framework of the debate held during 2018 in the Congress of the Argentine Nation for the right to legal, safe and free abortion. Taking into account that hundreds of clandestine abortions are performed per year, in which many women die, while others are left with lifelong injuries or suffer various psychological abuse, we can understand that religion continues to have a say today.
“Take your rosaries out of our ovaries” is one of the songs heard from the green tide that sweeps the streets. Being able to redefine the symbols and icons that oppress us, to take back the sacred from our own, appropriating our body and paying tribute to it.
The Rovarios were distributed, along with stamps of the “Virgen abortera”, during the 2018 National Women's Meeting (ENM) in the city of Trelew.
The objective is to be able to disseminate this symbol as an antithesis and response to the ecclesiastical emblems that affect our bodies.
